What is Priority Assistance?

Priority Assistance is a service designed to ascertain the eligibility of certain customers, based on a set criteria of diagnosed life-threatening medical conditions, who require one reliable, fully operational home telephone service to be able to call for emergency assistance when needed.

In 2003 the Australian Communications Industry Forum developed an industry code of practice on the issue of Priority Assistance. This code of practice establishes consistent industry wide guidelines for the provision of Priority Assistance services by carriers. This code has now been registered by the Australian Communications Authority.
